Pesäpallo, the national game of Finland, is a unique combination of traditional bat-and-ball team games and American baseball. Developed in the 1920s by Lauri "Tahko" Pihkala, the sport celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2020 and continues to be one of Finland's most popular sports.
Pesäpallo was introduced in India by Chetan Pagawad, who initiated its organized development in 2010 and subsequently established the Pesäpallo Federation of India (PFI). Since then, the sport has steadily expanded through grassroots development programs, coaching camps, state and national championships, and international participation initiatives.
The Pesäpallo Federation of India serves as the national governing body for the sport in the country and is responsible for promoting, organizing, and developing Pesäpallo across India. The Federation works with state associations, athletes, coaches, and officials to create opportunities for participation and excellence in the sport.
The growth and international promotion of Pesäpallo in India are further supported by the "Go Global Pesäpallo Development Foundation (GGPDF)", a non-profit organization dedicated to sports development and international participation. The Foundation actively supports training camps, national championships, player development programs, educational initiatives, and international events, helping young athletes gain opportunities to represent India on the global stage.
Together, the "Pesäpallo Federation of India" and the "Go Global Pesäpallo Development Foundation" are committed to building a strong and sustainable future for Pesäpallo in India while strengthening sporting and cultural ties with the global Pesäpallo community.
